Kristoffer Lislegaard

New album: Subsupra

Subsupra album cover

I am so happy to tell you that I have a new solo album for you, please welcome Subsupra!

About the music

On Subsupra Kristoffer Lislegaard explores the relationship between foreground and background elements in the music, playing around with expectations and norms for how sounds usually are supposed to be presented.

For example there are parts where the background elements are louder than the lead melody, and sounds created by using noise reduction software in reverse to output what is usually removed.

Another influence for the sound design on this specific album comes from often experiencing auditory hallucinations while falling asleep.

Where can I listen to it?

Why is it not “everywhere” yet?

Choosing how to publish music in 2024 is a big mystery. There are so many ways to do it. From spending months (and a months salery) printing vinyls, to uploading it instantly for free to the internet. And the whole situation we are in right now is super weird.

I am not going to spend this whole post talking about how it is weird that the biggest pop acts and the most niché “local” acts are fighting for space in the same feed, because this is after all the announcement of MY new album. And as a DIY artist I am free to experiement and have fun with the whole process of releaseing my music.

Sooo… what is my release plan?

The alternative release plan

1 - Fair trade music distribution

Today the full album is released on Bandcamp and the independent “Fair Trade Music” platforms + like my other releases you can stream it for free on my Faircamp.

This is a way to prioritize the people who support artists on these platforms.

2 - Slowly releasing on streaming

The first single called Come Up | Breakthrough is on its way to all the mainstream platforms via my new distributor Diger Distro (more on that in a later post). Over the coming 6 months, each track will be released there until the entire album is available on all the platforms.

This will serve as an excuse to talk about the individual tracks and to remind people about my album for the next 6 months.

3 - Physical

There are also cassette tapes available Bandcamp and (very soon) in the Record store Tiger located in Oslo, with worldwide shipping.

This is for the super fans, for the people who are curious about a different listening experience, and for the people who want a physical object in their life (even if they might not have a tape player).

Credits

Not much to put here since I did most of it myself but mastering was done by Christian Obermayer at Strype Audio and text design on the tapes was done by Sofie Søndervik Sæther.

Thanks

Thanks to everyone who listens, subscribes and replies to the newsletter, comes to concerts, shows up in the chat on live streams, and cares about my music. I am really grateful to all of you ❤️ .
