Øy vinyl in stock now

Finally! 5 months after putting in the order to press our album to vinyl, I am so happy to be able to announce that Øy - Live 180g vinyl is now in stock!

I have shipped out all preorders and supplied Tiger Record shop with two boxes full of records.

To recap quickly about the album itself it consists of 5 tracks recorded during concerts in 2023. They are all improvised and part of longer concerts. I am really happy with how it all came out, and super proud of it!

Is it maybe the first full-length-tap-dance-controlling-electronics-improvised-music-album-pressed-on-vinyl in the world? Maybe.

It sounds great – PUH!

Investing in pressing a vinyl record is scary. It costs quite a bit of money, it is a long process, and there are many things that can go wrong. That is the positive with digital, it is so quantified. Scan the numbers, contrast it with other numbers, looks good? Ok good!

In the analog world things are for a lack of a better word alive. I don’t necessarily mean this in a romantic way, even if this can be a very positive way to appreciate the analog. But from a totally practical point of view there are so many parts that each introduce their own personality, and things can sound a little bit different each time, and VERY different on different setups. A bit of dust on the needle? A bit of vibrations being transferred from the table the record player is placed on? What gear are you using in the different parts of the chain? All these things can affect the sound.

And while this of course can be viewed as a negative IT IS SO MUCH FUN! We have so much “perfect” now. We sit on the computer all day and work with numbers and perfectly aligned things, photoshopped images and algorithmically organized information. It is all so neat, perfect and… lifeless. I mean I am no analog purist, but I think the more I spend time doing “correct” things in the digital, the more I appreciate the “fun” and “interesting” things in analog.

For a second when listening to it for the first time I heard some distortion on the most bassy parts and I was worried that after all this work, it didn’t turn out that great. But luckily it was just my gainstaging between the output of the amplifier (that I used as a phono preamp) and the input on my monitor controller in my studio. Once this was adjusted to the correct levels it sounded EXCELLENT!

Video showing off the vinyl

Tiger Record shop have an Instagram account where they post pictures of new releases, videos where they complain about Spotify and of artists showing off their new releases.

So here is me in true one-take-wonder showing off the new vinyl, hehe! English subtitles added for the international audience.

We only printed 100 vinyl records, so get them while you can :)
