In an attempt to relax, disconnect and recharge, my wife and I went on a trip to Athens, Greece. I think it worked, because as the days went by we really felt like we “landed” here. Chilling, enjoying the weather, the food, the views, etc.
And after some days my mind started slowly thinking and pondering about my projects. This year I am trying to focus on the important things, to really go where my artistic curiosity and interests lie, and not necessarily where others are telling me I should go.
One of the things that is simply always a positive experience for me, is live streaming on Lislegaard.stream. With more people tuning in each time it really feels like a positive space for audiovisual exploration. So as we were walking around in Athens, listening to the birds I was also thinking about different live streams I could do in the future.
We were on top of Acropolis when my wife said:
Just think, maybe Plato and Aristotle walked here pondering great thoughts, and now here we are walking in the same place.
To which I answered:
Yeah, it’s cool to think about, but I think I might be the first person to walk here thinking about different audio solutions for off-grid live streaming and the duration of messages on chat overlay on Owncast.

Then my studio partner Jørgen sent me a replay of his studio live stream back in Oslo.
So I decided that it would be super fun to do an impromptu live stream right here in Greece. I didn’t have much with me, but I DID have a laptop, headset, and phone with 5G. I set up a scene in OBS streaming software, checked that video and network sharing via cable from my phone worked and packed my little gear and went out.
Acropolis itself was too crowded with tourists of course, but we did walk up another mountain a few days before, with a beautiful view: Nymph Hill, including the tower of the muses. Can’t get a more inspirational place than the actual place of the muses, can you? So after looking around a bit, we found the PERFECT spot!

I did a quick speed test, and it turns out the upload speed on the mountain was excellent!

Then I prepared the server, opened an empty project in Ableton Live, pressed live in OBS and shared the stream to the Lislegaard.stream email list and on the Fediverse.
Here are some excerpts from the stream, or you can watch the whole thing in the live-stream archive.
It was fun! 34 people watched live! More remote streams in the future!
